JOAN MIRÓ

Joan Miró was one the most relevant artists of the 20Th century. He was born in Barcelona in 1893, at the end of the 19th century and  lived a long life until (1983). During this time he created a world unique in the world of art and left a work of  immense value.

Born in Barcelona, he started painting very early and in the beginning of the 20th century he entered the school of fine arts. In 1918 he set up his first exhibition. His first works reflect influences from cubism also folkloric catalan art.

His trip to Paris introduced him to surrealist art. In 1921 he showed his first individual exhibition in Paris. Many more came after this first one.

He also experimented with many other artistic forms, such as engraving, lithography, water colors and others. He became one of the most respected and well known artists of the 2oth centruy and he painted several murals for the UNESCO building in Paris. His sculptures are  also well known , some of them can be seen in Barcelona and in  museums all over the world.

His works can be seen in the Reina Sofia museum in Madrid, the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona or in the MOMA in New york.

THE BLACKBIRD SONG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND THE RAIN IN THE MORNING

the universe of Joan Miró can be admired in this painting. Stars, moons, constellations but also faces, with eyes which can see all this world.

The colours that can be seen in this paintings are blue, red, black and white. All of them over a grey background. It is curious that the "miró colours" yellow and red are not so characteristic in this work of art. Probably because it is the night and the rain, notas  colurful and bright as we can associate with yellow.

I like this painting because of its simplicity but also its depth. In my opinion, this is one of the features of Miró's work . It could be the drawings of a child, but it tells us so much about everything: nature, life, movement and poetry. I also like the title. In fact I like a lot some of the titles of the work of Miró.  Here we can spend a good while looking for the bird and the rain... some of the critics will explain to us where everything is and why ... but that's not the most important thing in a work of art, for me the relevant things to enjoy and admire it and to feel that I would have liked it to have painted it myself.
