with pros and cons in Jonas' community.
.What is the
significance of rules in Jonas’ Community? Why are some
rules socially
acceptable, while others are strictly forbidden? For example, we
learn that teaching a younger sibling
to ride a bike is forbidden,
yet happens often and is almost expected within the Community.
Alternatively, we later
learn that hoarding snacks is against the
rules and will result in public chastisement.

Become a Receiver of Memory: Jonas was chosen to
become the Receiver of Memory in his community. You canbecome a Receiver, too, simply by interviewing an elderly friend or relative about his or her past. You might want to find out whatit was like to be a child during previous generations. What gamesdid children play then? What did they wear? What did they eat?What was school like? What kind of chores did they do? Did theywatch television? What about movies? What were the most popular names? You might want to take notes or tape-record
your interview, so that later you can write it all down and share these memories again with your “Giver.”

Time clauses are introduced with the following time conjunctions:
When – as – as soon as – while – before – the moment
that – since – after – by the time – whenever -

_____________ simple when we are talking about the future.
Example:

When we WILL GO SHOPPING, I’ll buy you something nice. ______________
NOTE: In Spanish we use the SUBJUNCTIVE, but in English we use the
